Before moving to the Marble Falls area in 1963, the Burdett family played an important role in road development, land improvement, and local commerce around Wimberley. During the Great Depression, they operated a general store where goods and labor were often bartered because cash and banking services were limited.

The Burdetts also ran a major cedar-chopping encampment, transporting cedar posts to cattle ranches throughout West Texas. Those sales kept the operation running and helped provide steady work for hundreds of local families.

Family history also includes Patsy Burdett, who established a women-only camp along the Guadalupe River. During the Depression and the years that followed, the camp welcomed single women who worked together to produce household essentials for themselves and nearby families.
